Finance Operations Manager (Part-Time)

Job Summary

The MTC is a non-profit organization with a national (and international) membership. Our member high schools are helping redefine what high school can be, and they are working with us to redefine a new digital high school transcript that reflects that new reality. We are a small organization with a very big mission and an amazing virtual team.

We are looking for someone who is willing and capable of doing everything from monthly bookkeeping to strategic financial modeling. You will be responsible for preparing financial statements for the Board of Directors and working with our audit firm to prepare our yearly filings. You will work across the team to set annual budgets and track spending; and you’ll work with the CEO to analyze a range of business opportunities.

We expect this position to be half time (20 hours/week) at first, with the potential to expand responsibilities to full-time over time. The MTC is a fully virtual team, so location is flexible (we operate on ET for our meeting schedules).


  • Monthly bookkeeping and bill payments
  • Annual invoicing (and followup) for all member high schools
  • Annual strategic planning, including budgeting and scenario modeling
  • Expense planning and tracking
  • Event Management: creating budgets, negotiating contracts, tracking
  • Quarterly Board reports
  • Manage the annual report financials, tax return, and audit preparation processes
  • Manage monthly payables
  • Manage semi-monthly payroll process
  • Negotiate key contracts


Ideally you have worked on an accounting team handling bookkeeping, reporting, and financial document preparation. Experience managing small projects and monthly operational/finance. If you are someone who has experience wrestling a small team into compliance around billing and tracking issues, even better. Our ideal candidate thinks in spreadsheets, and is able to model clear analyses for a range of issues large (what should we price an offering) and small (which hotel is providing the best overall pricing for a conference).
