Mastery Transcript Consortium™ (MTC) is delighted to announce that several members of the MTC team, including Susan Bell, director of member engagement, Stacy Caldwell, CEO, Mike Flanagan, Chief Product Officer, Patricia Russell, Chief Education and Operations Officer, will host sessions at the iNACOL Symposium later this month. One session will engage participants in the design of competency-based learning, while the other will focus on how the Mastery Transcript drives equity and engagement. This is a particularly exciting year to learn more and get involved with MTC. With a few pilot schools leading the way, the first set of students at several MTC member schools are applying to college with MTC Mastery Transcripts. A number of other members are involved in testing the new transcript and professional learning opportunities related to their school’s journey to mastery. Moving Beyond GPA: How Competency-Based Schools are using the Mastery Transcript to Drive Equity & Engagement
Tuesday, October 29, 4 to 5 p.m., with Stacy Caldwell, Mike Flanagan, and Patricia Russell, in presentation room: Ventura.
Mastery Transcript Consortium™ (MTC) is a growing collective of hundreds of high schools working together to design and implement a model of crediting and transcript generation that includes Mastery Credits and attached evidence of learning (instead of grades) for both content areas and skills critical to success in college, career, and life. This participatory session will engage attendees in an interactive, hands-on, co-design session of the Mastery Transcript.
From Theory to Practice: How to Design for Competency-Based Learning
Thursday, October 31, 8:30-10:30 a.m., with Susan Bell, Emily McCarren, Eric Hudson, Sally Mingarelli, presentation room: Smoketree D/E.
In order to understand and implement competency-based learning (CBL), we must experience it. Participants in this hands-on workshop will prepare and design for three key elements of CBL: empathy for the student experience, clear learning targets, and visionary strategy. In a series of high-energy, collaborative design sprints, participants will make progress toward CBL by practicing CBL: articulating purpose, setting goals, and choosing relevant experiences to learn from.
