A New Chapter for Mastery.org
We are beyond excited to become the next stewards of the Mastery Transcript.
Over the past decade, this consortium has made it possible for students without traditional grades to enter some of the best universities on Earth. Almost three thousand students have now been admitted using a Mastery Transcript, including at all eight Ivy League schools. It is a tremendous achievement.
Aaron and I are both children of educators. My parents led special education reform and parent-engagement programs across the Midwest, focused on helping young students master the essential skills they needed to succeed.
Aaron’s father was a middle school science teacher in rural Oregon who created a student-run science museum to get more children excited about science. I suspect our dinner-table conversations were similar: excitement about students’ progress, frustration with how slowly the system was changing, and hope for a better future.
We started Legend.org because we believed that changing how education is measured could create more freedom to change how it is delivered. Over the past two years, we’ve worked closely with teachers and studied the organizations already transforming assessment. When we found MTC and saw how far this consortium had come, we saw an opportunity to accelerate what all of you have started.
Aaron and I have spent the past 15 years building and scaling technology companies, including educational products and enterprise data platforms. We’re thrilled to combine Legend and MTC as Mastery.org and bring our experience, network, and resources to this work.
Our goal is to make Mastery.org the standard for mastery-based education and allow students around the world to be seen in three dimensions—not reduced to courses, grades, and a GPA.
