The school model
Pathways High is a tuition-free public charter school in Milwaukee. It was built around project-based learning and a belief that students should earn credit by showing what they can do.
The school is part of the founding-era story of the Mastery Transcript. Pathways publicly describes itself as a member of the Mastery Transcript Consortium and one of the first four high schools in the nation to issue the mastery transcript in 2021.
What gets measured
Pathways organizes learning around EMPOWER skills and mastery standards. Students do not earn credit simply by spending time in a class. They move forward when their work reaches at least proficiency.
That makes the record more than a list of courses. It becomes a statement about the skills students have practiced, revised, and demonstrated.
