MTC Wins Reimagine Education Gold Award

Called ‘The Oscars of Educational Innovation,’ the award recognizes excellence in areas such as innovation and scalability

 

Mastery Transcript Consortium (MTC) today announced its win of Reimagine Education’s annual K12 “Gold” Award, which is the top honor for an educational solution or pedagogy that excels in five areas: approach, uniqueness, innovation, scalability, and efficacy. The competition is co-organized by QS Quacquarelli Symonds—compilers of the world’s most-consulted university rankings portfolio—and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

“Winning the K12 category of the Reimagine Education Awards is a remarkable achievement, especially considering the overall high quality of the 1184 applications received this year, which made the competition the fiercest ever,” said Nunzio Quacquarelli, CEO of QS and co-founder of Reimagine Education. “We are delighted to see an effective initiative such as MTC’s recognized by the international experts that contributed to the evaluation of this year’s projects.”

In total there were 1184 applications from 39 countries and from across various sectors, including universities, edtech companies, and not-for-profit organizations. Applicants were judged by 160 experts from around the world, including those from Harvard, Google, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft, and the University of Cambridge. There were three organizations recognized in the K12 category, distinguished as a gold, silver, or bronze winner.

Mastery Transcript: Supporting a Shift for Schools and Students

MTC is a network of independent and public high schools reinventing how students prepare for college, career, and life. Together MTC’s member schools are creating a digital, high school transcript that reflects the unique skills, strengths, and interests of each learner. This new transcript, called the “Mastery Transcript,” will support schools in shifting from a traditional instruction model that credits student seat-time spent in subject-based courses to a mastery-based model that credits demonstrated achievement of Mastery Credits (both in traditional content areas, as well as in the development of skills, such as collaboration, communication, and leadership). At the same time, the Mastery Transcript will provide colleges and employers with an efficient and informative profile of the “whole student” that differentiates the student’s individual strengths.

“We are honored to have won the K12 Award and to be in the company of other organizations that are doing such meaningful and innovative work for students and teachers,” said Stacy Caldwell, CEO of the MTC. “This award recognizes the efforts of MTC’s growing network of 230 public and private member schools who have a shared vision for what high school should like. Together we are committed to codesigning the Mastery Transcript to support deeper learning experiences for each student and to provide a better tool for showcasing student work.”
